Chapter 11

Moving to the next one, he repeated the process.

After the last goblin had been drained, he took a moment to analyze his findings.

Even a heavily injured goblin restored almost 2.5 uses of Black Missile.

If it had been at full health, I probably could’ve restored 5 or more.

Considering goblins were among the weakest creatures, the efficiency was insane.

Satisfied with his results, Justin opened the dimensional gate and left the dungeon.

In an instant, the dark underground dungeon was replaced by the familiar walls of his studio apartment.

The contrast was almost comical.

“One step forward, and it’s fantasy. One step back, and it’s a rented room.”

It really felt like he was walking between two realities.

But by tomorrow, that line would be gone forever.

Then, a thought struck him.

I’m not the only beta tester.

He wasn’t the first to open the dimensional gate—he had only followed instructions from the game’s forums.

So—what were the other testers doing?

To find out, he turned on his computer and checked the official World Breaker site.

The forums were a complete mess.

【Does anyone actually KNOW what the apocalypse is?!】
【Stop spreading fake rumors. It’s getting old.】
【Did you idiots take drugs or something?】
【LMAO at the losers without a portal. RIP.】
【Anyone pick ‘The Path of the Artisan’? Tell us what it does!】

As expected.

Gone were the angry rants about the game shutting down.

Now, the community had split into two factions.

Those who had access to the portal—and those who didn’t.

He clicked on one of the most commented threads.

【Beta Test Rejects, I Feel Bad For You】

“Tomorrow is the apocalypse. How will the rest of you survive? It sucks that we got chosen and you didn’t. All I can say is… good luck out there.”

┗ This dude needs to shut up. Are you high?
┗ LOL, look at these losers getting salty.
┗ Stop teasing them. What if they come after us later?
┗ They’re not gonna do shit. If they show up, they’ll just get their asses kicked.

So they’ve stopped questioning the portal’s existence.

There were still a few skeptics, but they were now the minority.

Most people accepted that some players had been chosen as beta testers—and some hadn’t.

What really convinced them?

Videos.

Even though portals and magic didn’t appear on camera, recordings showed:

  • People disappearing into thin air.
  • Objects exploding due to unseen forces.

And, most importantly—

Some players had met in real life and demonstrated their abilities firsthand.

【Why was I rejected?】

“At first, I thought this beta test thing was fake. But then my friend opened a portal right in front of me. I tried to step through—but it pushed me back. I feel like shit. I’ve played this game longer than him. Why wasn’t I chosen?”

┗ Don’t worry. When the apocalypse starts, we’ll all get status screens anyway.
┗ Yeah, but I have 500+ hours in the game and still got rejected. It’s frustrating.
┗ Sounds like a perfect novel title: ‘My Friend is a Legendary Hero, but I’m Just an NPC.’
┗ LOL, shut up.
┗ Screw you.
┗ I swear to God, I’ll kill you.

Justin skimmed through more posts, but there was little useful information.

Most of it was just bragging, arguments, or people venting frustration.

Now I get why they only gave us three days.

Even with the limited time, people were wasting it fighting each other.

If the devs had given them more time, it would have just led to more resentment and conflict.

It was clear—the countdown wasn’t just for preparation.

It was to prevent chaos from spiraling out of control.

Of course, some were actually preparing.

【Stocking Up, Just in Case】

“Since it’s the apocalypse, I figured food and shelter would be important. I bought some canned food and a sleeping bag, just in case.”

┗ Shit, I didn’t even think of that. I’m heading out to buy supplies now.
┗ Smart move. Better safe than sorry.
┗ If you’re buying, get the best quality stuff. This might be our last chance to use money.
┗ That’s why I’ve been eating the most expensive food I can order. LMAO.

A survival stockpile?

It was a valid concern.

Food was a necessity—no one could last long without it.

Even Justin had prepared a small supply of preserved food.

But he wasn’t too worried.

If World Breaker follows the same logic as the game, staying still will get you killed.

The game rewarded action—and punished inaction.

The more risks you took, the greater the rewards.

The apocalypse wouldn’t favor people who hid with stockpiles.

There would be food and shelter as rewards, but only for those who went out and fought for it.

Realizing he had learned all he could, Justin shut down his computer and went to sleep.

The Day of the Apocalypse

At 8:00 AM, the system message arrived.

《As of this moment, all portals have been permanently closed.》

The countdown was over.

“Already?”

The system message ringing in his ears the moment he woke up startled him.

It was only 8:00 AM—was the apocalypse starting this early?

It was a weekday, meaning a lot of people were still asleep.

If this began right now, wouldn’t a huge number of people die in bed, unaware?

Fortunately, his worst-case scenario was proven wrong.

《The apocalypse will officially begin at 10:00 AM today.》
《Anyone who has not awakened an hour before will be forcibly woken up.》
《This message has been sent to all humans on Earth, including beta testers.》

At the last line, he felt a slight sense of relief.

At the very least, no one would die without knowing why.

Even those who weren’t beta testers were being given a chance.

Of course, what they did with that chance was entirely up to them.

“Good thing I finished preparing yesterday.”

His backpack, filled with food.
