Chapter 275 Sister and Brother Reunited
At that moment, Li Nanting’s resolve wavered. He no longer cared to stay and capture Yun
Wenzhan.
Escape!
He needed to flee immediately!
The sheer power of the arrow that struck earlier was enough to make it clear—whoever had
fired it was far beyond his own abilities.
If he stayed any longer, death would be his only fate.
Without hesitation, Li Nanting’s figure blurred as he attempted to flee into the distance.
But before he could gain any ground, another arrow—seething with a terrifying and
overpowering force—shot toward him with blistering speed.
Instinctively, he tried to dodge, but the arrow was too fast. There was no time, no chance.
Thud!
The arrow pierced through his left shoulder blade in an instant, sending a spray of blood into the
rain.
The impact of the arrow’s force sent Li Nanting tumbling to the muddy ground, his body
sprawled out in pain and humiliation.
“Don’t move!”
Before Li Nanting could suppress the agony and rise, Yun Yanshuang was already upon him.
Her Greenshard Sword pressed coldly against his throat, freezing him in place.
By the carriage, Yun Yanshui slowly lowered his black war bow, its faint green luster fading in
the rain.
Inside the carriage, Yun Wenzhan rubbed his sleepy eyes and groggily peeked outside. Seeing
his uncle standing alone in the rain, he tilted his head in curiosity.
“Uncle Yanshui, it’s raining! Aren’t you afraid of catching a cold?”
“I’ve got an umbrella, don’t I?”
Yun Yanshui turned back with a gentle smile as his nephew stirred awake.
“Where’s Aunt Shuang? I didn’t see her when I woke up!”
“She went off to kill some people,” Yun Yanshui said casually, his tone lighthearted.
“Kill people? Does that mean someone came looking for trouble?”
The mention of trouble jolted Yun Wenzhan fully awake. His youthful face lit up with energy, all
trace of drowsiness gone.
“Exactly. A group of powerful people came.”
“I’m going to help Aunt Shuang!”
With a wave of his small hand, Yun Wenzhan summoned a short spiritual spear custom-made
for him by his elder brother, Yun Wenxuan. He was ready to charge out of the carriage.
“You’re too late. Your Aunt Shuang has already taken care of all of them.”
Yun Yanshui chuckled as he watched his nephew’s eager expression turn into one of
disappointment.
“Ugh! Aunt Shuang is just too good. I didn’t even get a chance to help.”
Yun Wenzhan sighed dejectedly, slumping slightly.
“Isn’t that a good thing? You got to sleep peacefully, and when you woke up, everything was
already taken care of.”
“That’s true, but it doesn’t sit right with me to let Aunt Shuang handle everything by herself.”
Yun Wenzhan hopped out of the carriage and stood by Yun Yanshui’s side, grabbing his uncle’s
robe with his small hand.
“Why don’t you go back inside and sleep some more?”
“I’m not a pig!”
“Besides, how can I sleep knowing Aunt Shuang put herself in danger while I did nothing?”
“I just want to know who it was that dared follow us and plot against us!”
Tilting his head, Yun Wenzhan shot an exasperated glance at his uncle before focusing intently
on the rain-soaked distance.
Through the curtain of rain, he spotted a figure emerging.
It was Yun Yanshuang, escorting a battered and subdued figure—Li Nanting. She pushed the
captive forward until he collapsed weakly to the ground.
“Aunt Shuang!”
Yun Wenzhan called out, his eyes narrowing as he glared at the defeated cultivator.
“Is this the scoundrel who was following us and plotting against us?”
“Yes,” Yun Yanshuang replied calmly.
“Let me kill him! This bastard dared to target us—he deserves death!”
With fiery determination, Yun Wenzhan stepped forward, prepared to deliver the final blow.
“Hold on, Zhan’er! Don’t be so quick to act. Killing him would only fulfill his wish,” Yun
Yanshuang said, stopping him with a raised hand.
Hearing his Aunt Shuang’s words, Yun Wenzhan reluctantly withdrew his hand, though his face
was still filled with dissatisfaction.
“Not going to talk, huh?”
Yun Yanshui glanced down at the battered and defeated Li Nanting, his tone calm as he spoke.
“Hmm… He seems to be a trained death warrior. No matter how much he’s tortured, he won’t
easily reveal anything,” Yun Yanshuang replied.
“Then use that method of yours and see if we can pry any useful information out of him. I want
to know if he was sent by the Ye family,” Yun Yanshui said, casually pulling Yun Wenzhan to the
side. The two of them sat by the carriage, ready to watch Yun Yanshuang interrogate Li Nanting.
After exchanging a few words with her brother, Yun Yanshuang turned her attention back to the
immobilized Li Nanting.
Without hesitation, she reached for the black gourd at her waist.
Uncorking it, she released a wisp of pale white smoke, which floated out and gradually
coalesced into the form of a ghostly woman clad in white.
“Immortal…”
The moment the ghost saw Yun Yanshuang, she instinctively trembled with fear. Her form, as
ethereal as drifting mist, wavered in the air as she quickly bowed in deference.
“I need your help with something,” Yun Yanshuang said coldly.
“Please, Immortal, tell me what you require!”
“I need you to possess this man and find out who sent him and his men to target us,” Yun
Yanshuang instructed, pointing at the pathetic figure of Li Nanting slumped on the ground.
“As you command…”
The white-clad ghost bowed again, though her gaze lingered on Li Nanting for a moment.
When her eyes fell upon him, a flicker of recognition flashed across her ghostly face, and she
murmured in disbelief, “Nan… Nanting?”
Above them, the storm raged. Thunder roared as the torrential rain drenched Li Nanting,
soaking his clothes, hair, and face.
Lying helpless in the mud, Li Nanting paid no attention to the ghost hovering nearby. Nor did he
hear her murmured words.
All he could feel was the relentless cold of the rain and the numbing ache of his wounds, the
sound of raindrops beating against his body blending with the howl of the wind.
“I hate the rain so much…” he muttered weakly.
The ghost’s expression did not escape Yun Yanshuang’s notice. Narrowing her eyes, she asked
sharply, “You know this man?”
“Immortal, he… he is my younger brother—Li Nanting!” the ghost replied, her voice trembling as
she bowed deeply.
“Ah, that explains it.”
Yun Yanshuang nodded in understanding. She had found it strange that Li Nanting’s face had
felt oddly familiar when she first saw him. It now made sense—the resemblance between him
and the ghost was undeniable.
“Immortal, please… please spare my brother this once! I’ll take any punishment in his place!”
The ghost fell to her knees, prostrating herself before Yun Yanshuang. Tears streamed down her
face as she begged for her brother’s life.
“That depends on whether he’s willing to confess what I want to know,” Yun Yanshuang said
coldly. She understood that forcing the ghost to possess her own brother would be difficult, so
she decided to lay down her terms.
“Immortal, leave it to me! I’ll make sure Nanting tells you everything you wish to know,” the ghost
promised fervently.
“Let’s hope so. If he refuses, don’t expect me to show mercy,” Yun Yanshuang replied icily.
“Thank you, Immortal! Thank you!”
The ghost repeatedly bowed in gratitude, her tears mingling with the rain as she turned her gaze
to her brother. A paper umbrella materialized in her hand, which she used to shield Li Nanting
from the rain.
She crouched silently in the downpour, gazing at the grown man her younger brother had
become.
Yun Yanshuang stood nearby, ever vigilant, her eyes fixed on Li Nanting. With her elder brother
keeping watch not far away, she wasn’t overly concerned about him attempting anything
reckless.
Under the umbrella, Li Nanting stirred. Slowly opening his eyes, he saw a familiar face before
him.
“Is this… a dream? Or a vision before death? I never thought… I’d see my sister again…” he
murmured weakly, his voice barely audible over the rain.
“Nanting, it’s not a dream! It’s not a vision! It’s me—your sister! It’s really me!”
The ghost’s voice trembled with emotion as she spoke, her ethereal form trembling slightly.
“Sister?”
Li Nanting blinked, his mind sharpening as he gradually registered the world around him. The
pain coursing through his body reminded him all too clearly—this was no dream, nor an illusion.
