11105-chapter-44-bringing-special-effects

Guo Jing’s furious roar, imbued with internal energy, echoed far and wide—loud and clear enough for the townspeople hiding in their homes to hear every word.

«Did they catch that flower-thieving scoundrel?»

«I think he’s called… Ouyang Ke?»

«Finally, a true martial hero has stepped in! Thank the heavens, my daughter is safe!»

The nearby residents grew restless upon hearing the news. Some even mustered the courage to leave their homes and peek outside. Sure enough, they saw two figures battling atop the rooftops not far away.

Aboard the luan carriage above, Li Mochou stomped her foot in frustration. «What do we do? What do we do!? Where did that guy come from?! He’s ruining my big moment! He’s courting death!»

«What’s the rush?» Xuan Yuan gently patted Li Mochou’s head. «Don’t underestimate Ouyang Ke. He’s officially Ouyang Feng’s nephew, but in truth, he’s his illegitimate son. His martial arts are extraordinary—he’s even mastered the Toad Technique. Not just Guo Jing, even if you add in those two Beggar Sect guys, they’re still no match for him.»

«Your big moment is still coming—trust me. And didn’t I tell you to stop reading those bizarre novels?»

Only then did Li Mochou turn her anger into joy. After a few seconds of playful pouting at Xuan Yuan  , she relaxed and leaned over the edge of the carriage to watch the fight unfold.

Elsewhere, inside the sedan chair, the disguised «Miss Cheng»—Li Sheng—heard the chaos outside and immediately changed plans. He burst out of the sack restraining him and shouted, «Well done, hero! Let me help you slay this cur!!»

Meanwhile, several Beggar Sect disciples who had been lying in wait also emerged from the shadows. Led by Yu Zhaoxing, they launched themselves into battle against Ouyang Ke’s maids and concubines.

In the blink of an eye, the entire scene devolved into a chaotic melee. Li Sheng and Guo Jing fought Ouyang Ke together, evenly matched for the moment, while the Beggar Sect disciples and Ouyang Ke’s white-robed maidservants brawled in a whirlwind of chaos.

More and more townspeople crept out of their homes, watching from afar with wide eyes, captivated by the spectacle.

As Xuan Yuan   had predicted, the combined efforts of Li Sheng and Guo Jing still weren’t enough. After an initial flurry that caught Ouyang Ke slightly off guard, both men were soon struggling to fend off his relentless attacks.

Li Mochou knew this was her cue. She drew her sword and leapt—only to be interrupted midair by a sudden whoosh as an arrow sliced through the air.

Ouyang Ke flipped and dodged, roaring, «Who dares ambush me?!»

Charging from the distance came a burly Mongol warrior, bellowing, «Brother Guo Jing! I’m here to help you!!!»

Guo Jing beamed. «Brother Tolui!?»

Smack! Li Mochou face-planted onto the luan carriage floor. «Seriously!? Are you kidding me!? Will this ever end!?»

«You’re panicking again,» Xuan Yuan   said with a chuckle, shaking his head. «Relax. That guy’s just a Mongol archer. He might not even be able to beat one of Ouyang Ke’s maids in hand-to-hand combat.»

Still, when Xuan Yuan looked closely at the newcomer, his gaze grew pensive.

Börte Chijin Tolui.
Son of Genghis Khan. He had marched south with his father to war against the Jin, and would one day ride west in the great Mongol campaign, razing Khwarezm and laying waste to Khurasan—a man who would one day stain entire nations in blood.

And yet here he was now, full of loyalty, risking death under pursuit from Wanyan Honglie, just because he’d heard Guo Jing’s voice and rushed over to help.

Though Tolui lacked advanced martial skill, his archery was formidable. While Guo Jing and Li Sheng engaged Ouyang Ke, Tolui fired arrows with pinpoint accuracy, peppering their foe and forcing him to constantly evade.

To make matters worse for Ouyang Ke, several other Mongol warriors had also joined Tolui, turning the rooftop into a high-ground firing squad.

«YOU CURS!!» Ouyang Ke, pushed to the limit, retreated several steps in fury. His feet tapped the tiles lightly as he drew a flute from his sleeve.

He raised the flute to his lips—and began to play.

The eerie sound floated out into the night air, carried by the wind.

Rustle… rustle… rustle…

A skin-crawling hiss began to rise from all directions.

At first, the onlookers didn’t understand. Then someone screamed—and the horror became clear.

«SNAKES! THERE ARE SNAKES! SO MANY SNAKES!»

«You monster! How dare you use such witchcraft!?»

Several Beggar Sect disciples and Mongol warriors were bitten immediately. Even Guo Jing and Li Sheng soon realized they were being surrounded—snakes of every color and shape slithering across the rooftops toward them.

Ouyang Ke sneered inwardly. Witchcraft?

This was the secret serpent-taming art of White Camel Mountain Villa, mysterious and profound—hardly something to be dismissed as mere sorcery.

«Ugh! Gross, gross, gross!»
Girls, it seemed, had an instinctive aversion to such things. Li Mochou recoiled, nearly clinging to Xuan Yuan   in fright. Huang Rong’s face paled, and Mu Nianci rubbed her arms furiously in discomfort.

They knew these snakes wouldn’t harm them—but the sensation was still unbearable.

Xuan Yuan  , however, watched with curiosity. Using flute music to command serpents—though nowhere near as precise as Nuwa’s cyber-enhanced methods—wasn’t entirely without merit.

«Tch. If I didn’t need to turn Ouyang Ke into a ‘spectacle,’ I’d almost want to capture him alive.»

«Oh well, I’ll just pry the secrets from Ouyang Feng later. None of this will escape me.»

«Mochou—it’s your turn.»

At last! Li Mochou perked up with excitement. Behind her, Huang Rong gave a conspiratorial wink. Her ear pendants and jade hairpin glimmered faintly in the moonlight.

«Mochou sis, you’ve been upgraded! Go send it!»

Mu Nianci watched eagerly too—she’d been in on the entire plan from the start.

With a crisp «Yes!», Li Mochou leapt gracefully from the luan carriage.

At the same moment, Xuan Yuan   tilted his head toward the moon.

And slowly… lifted his palm.

«This is how you do special effects.»

                                                  …Scene Break…

Ouyang Ke sneered coldly at his surroundings. No matter how strong your martial arts were—when caught in his Ten Thousand Serpent Array, all would meet a bitter end.

Seeing Guo Jing and the others floundering amidst the snake swarm, backing up step by step, he raised his flute again.

A soft tune rose once more—and even more snakes began slithering out from the shadows.

Even the spectators, watching from a safe distance, finally broke into chaos.

«Run! RUN! SNAKES!!»

«A monster! It’s a monster!!»

Even seasoned martial artists would break out in cold sweat facing White Camel Villa’s serpent-taming arts—what hope did commoners have?

Screams echoed through the streets. One person tripped and fell, only to see a snake coiling around their leg—prompting a wail of pure terror.

Just as Ouyang Ke was reveling in his triumph, a clear voice rang out from the sky.

«You foul demon, bringer of harm to the innocent!»

The voice carried a supernatural resonance, unlike that of any ordinary human. It was profound and ethereal, and somehow, all of Baoying City could hear it perfectly.

«Who’s there?!»

Startled, Ouyang Ke looked up—and froze.

In the night sky, the radiant full moon suddenly bloomed with a halo of light.

From that cold, silvery moonlight descended a celestial maiden clad in apricot-yellow robes, flowing gently on the wind.

Her entire figure shimmered with cascading light, her attire like the legendary robes woven from cloud and mist.

Her eyes glanced calmly at Ouyang Ke, then shifted to the raging serpent swarm below. The celestial maiden let out a faint sigh—and slowly drew her sword.

As her blade left its sheath, it was as if a second sun rose in the heavens. In that moment, one could vaguely hear the cry of a golden crow, the echo of a Xuanbird’s song.

A wave of golden radiance surged across the sky, bringing endless light and warmth.

In a heartbeat, the city of Baoying was reversed from night to day.

A boundless brilliance swept through the heavens—turning darkness into celestial  light.
